Dallas and Rook are out of town, so Don and Al get to talk animation!! They start with the mediocre 60’s Marvel cartoons and continue with everything under the sun including 8 Man, Prince Planet, Casper, Josie and the Pussycats, The Super-friends, and popular 80’s cartoons, as well as Alex Toth’s How A TV Cartoon Is Made. They go off about Batman’s pop culture influence, and rave about the 1940’s Fleischer Studios Superman animated show. And even though Don forgot who they were, musical spotlight: THE JURY. Yet another shout-out to our boy James, and WHAT ARE YOU READING featuring Captain Easy and Ghost World.
It’s the crazy 8’s!!!! Dallas, Don, and Al return for more nonsense. After talking some fantasy football smack, Dallas lists off his top 4 favorite “modern” comic artists: Chris Bachalo, Skottie Young, J.H. Williams III, and Frank Quitely. Al gives out some Michael Kaluta love, and then Don reminisces about his comic collecting days in Middle School, and then the boys discuss their picks of the week in WHAT ARE YOU READING. Enjoy, kiddies!!!
MUSICAL SPOTLIGHT: Larry Moore
Happy Labor Day Weekend!!! And here we are again, this time around it’s Dallas, Don, and Al. The topic: why Rook isn’t here. Oh, and we also discuss comics. Specifically, Al’s favorite writers, including Bruce Jones and Arnold Drake. Don goes bananas over Thor, Dallas’ wife tries to get him drunk on air, and we all fight over the new DC Reboot. We also get in a discussion about Stan Lee. Yes, Stan “the Man” Lee, co-creator of Marvel’s most beloved franchises. Even if you’re not a comic book reader, you know this guy. And “What Are You Reading” returns with a new grading scale! Enjoy and have a safe Labor Day weekend!
MUSICAL SPOTLIGHT: Steve Robinson.
Some people say that Don is the glue that holds this show together. If that’s the case, then this episode is a hot mess. It’s Dallas and Al this time around, and we continue our multi-episode discussion on our favorite artists. We discuss the giants of the comic book industry, Neil Adams (duh!), Paul Smith, Al Williamson, John Buscema, Winsor McCay, Steve Rude, and Will Eisner.
We’re back!! It’s the Al and Don show as they take over the reins and discuss all things Archie, and also touch on the origin of their comic collecting, what the cool kids were reading, comic speculators, and The Incredible Hulk #181!!!! Enjoy and leave us a message on the blog!!
MUSICAL SPOTLIGHT: PRIMITIVE ASTRONAUTS.
Archie first appeared in 1941, starting a lot of teen comics,
several Saturday morning animated series, and some hit songs.
Aaaand…. welcome back!!!! We actually made it to Episode 4! Rook is MIA today, apparently he thought taking his family to Disney was more important than talking comics. Al finally rejoins the fold, as he and Don beat up Dallas and take over the show for a lengthy talk on Doom Patrol, the Savage Sword of Conan, DC 100 Page Spectaculars and more! They discuss their favorite artists and creators, including Bob Brown, Dick Dillon, the amazing Don Heck, Frank Robbins, Irv Novick, Jerry Grandenetti, Tony Tallarico, Mike Sekowsky, Ramona Fradon and Bruno Premiani! Leave a comment below, and tell us how much you freakin love us!!!
Bruno Premiani one of Al’s favorites.
A Rant By Our Resident Blogger, Silent Bill…
Ah, The moment of silence. Usually a time to think kindly on one who has passed and reflect on how they affected us.
There will be…. some of that in this segment, but mostly i’ll be ranting about how stupid i think it is that the powers that be canceled, killed off, or otherwise ruined my favorite character or book.
So i thought ad thought about who to feature in my very first moment of silence.. There have been SO many deaths and cancellations lately. Bucky. Ultimate Peter Parker. Secret Six. Johnny Storm. Nova. Guardians of the Galaxy. and so on and so on. But nothing has made me sadder than the death of the DCU.
Welcome back, it’s episode 2! The gang’s all (well, mostly) here, and the topic of the day is favorite comic book writers. We end up going off on a tangent, and talk about Alan Moore a lot. MUSIC SPOTLIGHT: PRIMITIVE ASTRONAUTS. Apologies for the sound quality this episode, we’re still having growing pains. Drop a line and let us know what you think of the show!!!!
